World Helicopter Day Was a Great Success!

This year's World Helicopter Day (WHD) landed on Sunday, August 20, and the museum's staff and a handful of volunteers organized a well-received afternoon of fun and flight.

"World Helicopter Day aims to raise awareness of the contributions that helicopters make to our society and celebrate the diverse range of people that design, fly and support them," according to the WHD website. "The day is held on the 3rd Sunday of August each year. 2017 (was) the third year of the event."

AHMEC’s event offered meals and dessert from Sabatino’s Mobile Pizzeria & Grill and Kona Ice of King of Prussia. Crowded Castle Brewery of Phoenixville brought a couple of their excellent craft brews. Vendors included Oxford’s Petey Possum’s Hangout filled with fun and educational toys, local author Linda Milanese Kerschner who penned a children’s book about the museum’s Cheerful Chopper entitled, Cheerful Chopper to the Rescue, and our own Larry Barrett solicited volunteers with a tableful of archival material and a great V-22 Osprey movie.

DogsHome, a ChesterCounty dog rescue, had sweet Penny in tow seeking a loving forever home (maybe yours?), and the ChesCo Seeing Eye Club came with a few of their adorable puppies-in-training. And our good friends at JeffSTAT flew in for a couple of hours, giving tours of their copter and answering questions. Even 6ABC arrived to film for the local news, but, unfortunately, didn’t make it on-air. Watch for the edited raw 6ABC footage on our YouTube page.

Many thanks to everyone who helped with, supported and attended World Helicopter Day – you made it a great success! A Photo Album of the day’s events is now on our Facebook page, which you are encouraged to “Like” and follow.
