Throughout the Christmas holiday, AHMEC will welcome another popular form of transportation within its walls: trains!

Beginning December 3, the Museum will offer a functioning O-gauge train display run by its volunteers, who will also be available to answer questions. The display will feature an elevated Figure-8 made of vintage 60-year-old Lionel “Super-O” 36-inch diameter track running a B&O Budd rail diesel commuter train. An outer oblong loop will surround the display that will also have a heliport, landing pad, hangar, several helicopters, a rotary beacon and radar tower, plus a terminal building with control tower. Many thanks to Bachmann Industries for donating some of the track!

Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4 (in the Model Room):  East Penn Traction Club

The East Penn Traction Club is a group of 300 enthusiasts throughout the Delaware Valley and Philadelphia with a common interest in modeling and operating modular layouts for light rail transit vehicles, affectionately known as “trolleys.” The club will display and operate O-gauge (1:48 scale) and HO-gauge traveling layouts of trolleys and answer questions.

Saturday, December 17 (in the Model Room):  Train Collectors Association Atlantic Division

The Train Collectors Association is a national organization of model railroad enthusiasts dedicated to collecting, preserving, and operating model trains, such as 3-rail, O-gauge (1:48 scale) “Lionel” and 2-rail, S-gauge (1:64 scale) “American Flyer” types. Based in Strasburg, PA, the Atlantic Division is comprised of members from southern NJ and southeast PA.  They will display and operate one of their many layouts and answer questions.
